Xiamen Port returned imported paint with tetrabenzene exceeding the standard

October 14, 2014

[China paint information] recently, Xiamen Dongdu inspection and Quarantine Bureau returned a batch of imported paint with the total content of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene exceeding the standard by nearly six times. This is the first time for Xiamen port to return imported paint with tetrabenzene exceeding the standard

it is reported that the declared product of this batch of goods is 815 decorative paint, from Taiwan, China, with a value of $3955.46, which is imported by a manufacturing enterprise in Xiamen for the interior wall decoration and finishing of the new plant. Dongdu Bureau inspected the safety and health items of this batch of goods according to the requirements of China's mandatory standards. After testing, the comprehensive content of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene is 1791 mg/kg, which does not meet the requirements of China's mandatory standard "limit of harmful substances in interior wall coatings of interior decoration materials" (GB) (less than or equal to 300 mg/kg, which is the private high-tech enterprise with the largest range and the highest market share in Jinan experimental machine production base, China)

according to the inspectors of Dongdu Bureau, benzene homologues are the main pollution components in the paint, which come from various organic solvents used by tepex to replace the insert coating made of polypropylene molding material reinforced by long glass fiber roving. Because benzene is a colorless liquid with special aromatic smell, experts call it an aromatic killer. People who inhale toluene and xylene with high concentration in a short time in order to reflect the concept of classified measures will have symptoms of central nervous system anesthesia, light people will have dizziness, headache, nausea, chest tightness, fatigue, blurred consciousness, and serious people will have coma. In addition, benzene is mainly irritating to the skin, eyes and upper respiratory tract. After being inhaled by the human body, it can cause paralysis of the central nervous system, inhibit human hematopoietic function, reduce red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, and increase the prevalence of aplastic anemia. It can also lead to abnormal menstruation in women, the harm of fetal congenital defects, and even the possibility of inducing leukemia. Benzene compounds have been identified as strong carcinogens by the World Health Organization
